Percy Amaury Talbot (born June 26, 1877 , † December 28, 1945 in Cheltenham ) was a versatile British civil servant, botanist, anthropologist and African explorer . He was in the service of the Nigerian Political Service .

Live and act

Percy Amaury Talbot traveled extensively with his wife Dorothy Amaury Talbot (1871-1916) in the Oban District of Southern Nigeria and part of Cameroon to study the Ekoi people and the natural history of the area. The work In the Shadow of the Bush reports on religion, the secret society Egbo , Juju , the position of women, birth customs , divination , sorcery, mourning ceremonies, war, government, folklore etc. with detailed appendices about taboos, clubs, anthropometry, orthography, grammar , Vocabulary, botany, zoology, mineralogy, meteorology and geography. Honors

For him and for his wife, Dorothy Amaury Talbot, named the plant genera Amauriella Rendle from the family of the arum family (Araceae), Talbotia S.Moore from the family of Acanthus (Acanthaceae) and Talbotiella f Baker. from the legume family (Fabaceae). The genus Dorothea Wernham honors Dorothy Amaury Talbot.
