Luckenwalde Salzgitter bunker

The Luckenwalde Salzgitter bunker is an air raid shelter built in 1944 , which is located in Luckenwalde next to the Friedrich-Ebert-Schule (formerly: Hindenburg-Schule).

The unusual design of the types Salzgitter I with spans of 3.23 m and Salzgitter II with 4.00 m were usually built as part of the Geilenberg program in low-iron construction and with ceiling thicknesses of 2.50 m. The reason is that the mineral oil construction company , which was previously located at Belle-Alliance-Strasse 7-10 in Berlin-Kreuzberg , was relocated to the school next door. Among other things, this construction staff dealt with the underground relocation of refineries as part of the Geilenberg program.

Although the bunker is a listed building, applications have been made to demolish it. The emergency power system was removed and scrapped in 2012 due to the risk of injury during public visits.
