Bunkerhill , also known as Bunkershill , is a villa in the Scottish town of North Berwick in the East Lothian Council Area . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A.

description

Bunkerhill was built for Robert Craig in 1904 . Along with Carlekemp and Westerdunes , it is one of three villas from this period on Abbotsford Road on the western edge of North Berwick, where Robert Craig's brother James was the builder of Carlekemp. The Scottish architect Robert Lorimer is responsible for the design . As with Carlekemp, John Kinross was originally intended for the planning and it was only later that Lorimer was chosen.

The villa is constructed asymmetrically. The masonry of Bunkerhill is made of rubble from sandstone , with details with ashlar stones. On the north-facing front, an arched opening leads to the lower-lying entrance portal. The windows are usually grouped into twin or triple windows with stone mullions. On the north facade facing the street, two lobbies emerge , one one-story and one extending over both floors. The irregular facade is designed with three cross gables. A pinnacle reinforcement partially hides the gable roof behind . This is covered with slate. The side facades are partly designed with details from the Arts and Crafts movement .
