Buraco

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Buraco is a card game for 2 or 4 people from Brazil. It's similar to canasta ; but it ends faster, thanks to the buracos (reserve cards that you take up as soon as one of the team runs out of cards).

The aim of the game is to achieve as many points as possible with the help of the partner sitting opposite by discarding a series of cards, in particular so-called "Canastras" (a series of 7 cards).

Buraco is played with 4 sets of 52 cards plus 12 jokers .

Deal cards

First, the donors are determined. To do this, each player draws a card from the deck of cards. The player to the left of the winner (with the highest card) deals 11 cards to each of the players; the player to the right of the winner forms 2 piles with 11 cards and puts these buracos aside. The exact (one-time) withdrawal of the cards to be dealt (ie 44 or 22, depending on the case) earns 100 points.

The remaining cards are put on the reserve pile (face down).

The winner starts the game; In the following games, the tasks change counter-clockwise. At the beginning of the game, the player who starts the game can put down the card he picked up (see Pick up ) if he doesn't like it and pick up the next card instead.

The game

record, tape

At the beginning of each turn, the player takes one card from the reserve pile or - if he has a pair that "matches" the top card of the discard pile - all of its cards, whereby he must discard these 3 cards immediately.

Matching cards

Matching means that either the number (regardless of the color ) is the same or its color and numbers are in a continuous series (Ace as one, three, four, ..., ten, jack, queen, king, ace - which is two a joker and therefore does not appear in the row).

Lay down

Then he can lay down new stacks of "matching" cards (see above ) or add them to existing stacks (if you want - a possible tactic is to hold the cards in hand so that he can possibly pick up the stack of discarded cards ).

Each deck must contain at least 3 cards; One of which can be either a joker or a 2 (of any color) (which replace a card).

Further rules

  • Each discarded pile may only contain one joker or 2s - unless it is a pile of exclusively jokers and / or 2s.
  • If a deck contains seven cards, it is "closed" (and removed from the table). In this case, it is called Cerrados (= closed stack) without a joker or 2 person "clean" and such "dirty" with. The game can only be ended if the team owns at least one of these cerrados .
  • If a player runs out of cards (except for jokers or 2s), he picks up the buraco (a reserve pile set aside (one per team)). After that, he can continue as normal (ie it is still his turn if he has not yet discarded a card).
  • If there is no longer a Buraco and the team does not yet have a Cerrado , a player cannot discard his last card.
  • Jokers or 2s in a pile can be moved (within the pile) but not taken up again. That means: If you have a row of -5, 6 and a joker, you can move the joker down (becomes -4) and then create a -3, but you cannot put down a -7 and replace it with the Pick up a joker (but you can put down the 7 and the joker becomes an 8 or 4).
  • A joker or 2 as the top card of the discarded pile can never be picked up; not even if the player has two identical cards.

End of the train

If the player cannot / does not want to discard any cards, he must discard an (unneeded) card on the designated pile and the next player continues (counter-clockwise).

the end of the game

The game ends when a team has at least one Cerrado, has already picked up the Buraco and then one of the team gets rid of all of his cards (one more card can be discarded, but does not have to).

However, a team cannot end the game if the team started but not closed a stack of all wilds and twos .

Billing

When the game is over, the points are counted. Every Cerrado without a joker or a 2 counts 400 points (otherwise 200); except for the aces - these score 500 or 300 points. A cerrado made up of jokers and 2s is 1000 points; one only with 2s 2000; a non-closed cerrado made up of jokers and 2s brings 1000 minus points.

Another 100 points (each) are awarded for picking up the Buraco and ending the game; 100 points will be deducted if the Buraco is not accepted. Don't forget about 100 points for the deal .

Finally, the points of the cards are taken into account: the cards at the table positive and those in the hand negative. A joker counts 50 points, a 2's 25, an ace 20, cards up to 7 give 5 points and the rest above 10.

The game ends as soon as a team has more than 2000 points.

variants

  • The number of cards dealt can vary (e.g. 13 or 15).
  • The number of points required to win can vary.
  • You can also play with 6 players. The partner is then the third person.
