The castle ruin Cetin (German outdated Czettin ) is located in the municipality of Cetingrad , in Croatia .
history
In the Middle Ages, Cetin was owned by the Croatian noble family of Frankopans . Ivan Frankopan Cetinski died in 1493 in the battle of the Krbava field . On January 1, 1527, the Croatian Sabor in Cetin elected Ferdinand I of Habsburg as Croatian king and confirmed this with the Cetingrad Charter . From the 16th to 19th centuries, Cetin belonged to the military border or was in Turkish hands. The castle was badly damaged in the Russo-Austrian Turkish War in 1790 and captured by the imperial army on July 20th . In the 19th century, Cetin was abandoned by its residents and the jurisdiction was transferred to the nearby Cetingrad .
