history
The castle was the ancestral seat of the barons of Utzigen. In 1301 there was a conflict over water rights between the von Utzigen and the St. Urban monastery . The Solothurnians besieged the castle, but could not take it. Around 1360 the castle and the lordship first came into the possession of Peter von Thorberg and then in 1370 to the Lords of Grünenberg . In 1431 the town of Burgdorf bought the manor and the castle. In 1798 the French invaded and Burgdorf lost control and then had the castle tower released for demolition. In 1850 the courtyard was also demolished.
