Kawelecht Castle ( Estonian Kavilda vasallilinnus ) was a vassal castle , the small remains of which are now in Tartu County in today's Elva municipality in Estonia .
After the construction work was completed, the same builders were employed to build the nearby Kawelecht (Puhja) church, which is known to have been built between 1495 and 1499.
The castle was destroyed during the Livonian War in the summer of 1558 under the command of Gotthard Kettler . After the war, however, the areas of the Diocese of Dorpat belonged to Poland until in 1625, under the rule of the Swedish king, the areas of Konguta and Kavilda came first to Lars Eriksson Sparre and later to Lars Claesson Fleming.
Building
The castle was a fort-type castle , where a tower-like dwelling was built next to the farm buildings, as was the case with buildings of this type, especially in the vassal castle group of Northern Estonia. The time of the expansion of the stone castle is not known. One and a half floors have been preserved, most of which are underground.
