Krewa Castle
The castle Krewa even castle Krewo , is an archaeological site in the same village Krewa in Belarus.
At the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania , the castle was one of the most important residences of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. Algirdas , who lived from 1296 to 1377, is assumed to be the founder .
In 1385 the Union of Krewo was sealed at the castle , the personal union of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania with the Kingdom of Poland .
From 1391 the castle was the seat of a starost .
Between 1503 and 1506 it was destroyed by the Tatars .
In the 19th century, a wooden town hall for Krewa was built within the castle walls, which had been a town under Magdeburg law since 1559 .
During the First World War , the fortifications that were still strategically usable were fought over. Some of the medieval brick architecture was lost.
