Mühlenbach Castle

The castle Mühlenbach , also called Mehlenbach , is a defunct tower castle (Motte) in the district of Numborn of the municipality of Heusweiler in the Saarbrücken regional association in Saarland .

history

On August 30, 1274, Count Simon v. Saarbrücken-Commercy the brothers Boemund and Joffried von Saarbrücken adHd Edelherren v. Saarbrücken with the farm in Heusweiler (Huswilre), Gerlosheim and Kirchheim. (AH Jungk, Regesta on the history of the former Nassau-Saarbrückische Lande, Saarbrücken 1914, No. 536) The castle was probably used as the family seat of this branch of the noble lords of Saarbrücken, who then called themselves Lords of Mühlenbach, after 1274 until the beginning of the 14th century. Built and first mentioned in the 14th century: In 1350 the Wäppner documented "Joffrid von Saarbrücken, Herr von Mülebach", son of the deceased knight Joffrid v. Saarbrücken, for the first time as a Herr von Mühlenbach. (AH Jungk, Regesten, No. 1526) Nothing has come down to us from the time before 1274 from Herr von Mühlenbach. Mühlenbach, and the construction time around 1300 speaks against the fact that it was ever a tower hill castle (moth). In 1352 knight Joffrid v. Saarbr. and his relative Reinold v. Montclair made a primal feud by Ludwig v. Bübingen because of its capture in front of Mühlenbach Castle, which was probably besieged at that time. (Jungk, Regesten, No. 1541) In 1374 the castle was razed, but Messrs. Mühlenbach apparently remained in possession of their fief. It seems to have been rebuilt afterwards, or at least to have been inhabited. When after the death of the last tenant, the Trier cathedral dean Benmolt v. Mühlenbach, around the middle of the 15th century the fief of Heusweiler to Count v. Nassau-Saarbrücken fell back (LAS 22/2659, pp. 1–37), but remained a young Heinrich v. Mulenbach "sit in the castle" (LAS 22/2659, pp. 1–37), who was "a nobleman, but a bastard" and at the end of the 15th century his justice in Numborn to the early mass in Kölln (Köllerbach) sold. (cf. KL Rug, The Evangelical Families of the Köllertal before 1840, p. 49) After that, the castle does not seem to have been lent again and to have fallen into disrepair. In 1635, the Saarbrücken registrar Andreae describes the remains of the castle that still existed in gables with windows and three ditches around the area (AH Jungk, handwritten notes on the Saarbrücken district, Saarbrücken city library, regional studies department no. 994).

In the 19th century, the name "Mehlenbach" appeared for the castle complex for the first time.

From 1939 to 1940 a gun emplacement was built on the western wall in the castle grounds .

description

The Burgstall (castle site) of the former moth enclosure shows an extension of 70 meters. Half of the tower hill, which is surrounded by a ring-shaped ditch, has been removed and heavily flattened.
