The kwidzyn castle was a Teutonic castle of the Teutonic Order in the former West Prussian city of Kwidzyn, today Kwidzyn . It served as a castle, cathedral and bishop's residence.

history

In 1234 Marienwerder was conquered by the Teutonic Order. An already built Prussian castle was built as a fortified bishopric from 1344 to 1355. The castle's bell tower with its height of 54 m was also the keep; the upstream Dansker was used as a defense tower and toilet. Independent of the Dansker, a second tower is located directly on the mountain slope outside the castle in a northerly direction. It is a fountain tower , which is also connected to the castle by a small brick bridge, in analogy to the large multi-arched bridge of the Dansker. After the Reformation , the castle served as the seat of the Protestant bishops of Pomesania . After the First World War , the castle complex came to East Prussia and after the Second World War to Poland.
