Werner Ditzinger

Werner Ditzinger (born April 12, 1928 in Braunschweig ; † March 9, 2016 ) was a German swimmer and entrepreneur .

life and career

Ditzinger, who started for Eintracht Braunschweig , was one of the best German freestyle sprinters of the post-war period and won a total of eight German championship titles, three of them in the individual and five in the relay. In 1952 he qualified for the Olympic Games in Helsinki , but could not take part there because the National Olympic Committee for Germany could not take all athletes to Finland for financial reasons . One of his racing opponents was the Italian Carlo Pedersoli, who later became known as an actor under the name Bud Spencer .

Ditzinger was also used in the German national water polo team .

After his swimming career ended in 1958, Ditzinger founded Ditzinger GmbH , a wholesaler for industrial products in Braunschweig.
