Nevermore is the seventh studio album by the German rock band Mono Inc. It was released on August 9, 2013 and is the band's first album to contain songs in German. In the first week after its release, Nevermore entered the album charts at number 3 and was the second Mono Inc. album after Viva Hades to reach the top 10 of the German album charts .

Emergence

After the surprising success of the previous album "After the War" , which was released in 2012 and meanwhile reached number 6 in the album charts, Mono Inc. said they were faced with the decision whether to go for the tried and tested for the next album or to break new ground. In order not to create a pure sequel album, it was decided to change style and record songs in German for the first time. After Mono Inc. contributed a remix for Joachim Witt's song Gloria , a collaboration between Witt and Martin Engler arose. In what Engler called the “Club of the Living Poets”, the idea of the duet “No way too far” was born. The song was first performed live at the Blackfield Festival 2013 in Gelsenkirchen .

Music genre

In contrast to all previously published albums, Nevermore contains pieces in German for the first time. In the past, singer Martin Engler justified the lack of German-language songs by saying that the lyrics were internationally understandable. According to Engler, the move away from purely English-language works was due to the close cooperation with Joachim Witt, and as a reaction to the fans' request for titles in German.

reception

The reception in the music press was split for publication. The music magazine Metal.de praised the collaboration with Witt as well as the courage to use German lyrics and concluded:

"In ten years with almost a year between" Nevermore "and the previous work" After The War "," Nevermore "makes it clear that the working pace of the people of Hamburg remains high and the band has not lost sight of innovations and new sounds."

- Saskia Pompe - Metal.de

Laut.de criticized the album as a combination of a “little innovative but very common darkened electric guitar carpet”, “melodies of fair catchiness” and a “touch of Schlageresque attitude”.

“Terrible drawing board hymns of the cheesiest kind imaginable are not uncommon. "No Way Too Far" is an undead revenant of "Born To Live". The terrible song fries the listener, including the bell-clear children's choir, the lard and sultry of entire centuries. "

- Ulf Kubanke - Laut.de

RockFanatics praised the successful mix of German and English lyrics, as well as the good implementation of the German songs, which would give the feeling that Mono Inc. had "never done anything other than singing German":

“In summary,“ Nevermore ”is an absolute sensation album, which musically breaks completely new ground, but still finds the balance to the well-known Mono Inc sound. The songs are a successful mix of German and English, which gives fans more choice. "

- Michelle van der Hand - RockFanatics.de

The online magazine Mindbreed judged that Nevermore was a “very solid album”, but would give the impression of trying “to gain a foothold with a broad audience” “through friendlier lyrics, more catchy rhythms and German language”. Metalglory described Nevermore as an "album that impresses with variety, ingenuity and, last but not least, with high musical quality."

Controversy about BILD promotion

The release of the video to No distance is too far took place on August 8, 2013 exclusively through Bild.de . In the social network Facebook , fans expressed displeasure about the cooperation with Bild.de on the official band page. Martin Engler then published a statement the following day, in which he announced that the cooperation was initiated by Bild.de and that the sole aim was to sensitize as many as possible to the subject of child abuse on which the song is based.
