Mono Inc. is a German dark rock - band from Hamburg , which was founded in the 2000th The name is derived from the term monomania and the word incorporated .

Band history

The beginning time

Mono Inc. at the Blackfield Festival 2013

In 2000, Miky Mono (vocals), Martin Engler (drums), and Carl Fornia (guitar) founded the formation Mono Inc. Until 1997 they played in the band Wild Thing and from 1998 to 2000 under the name Mono 69 . In 2003 Manuel Antoni joined as bassist. In the same year her debut album Head Under Water was released as a self- release . In 2004, Head Under Water was re-released by NoCut and the single Burn Me was released, which Mono Inc. made available to a wider public.

In 2006 Martin Engler replaced the singer Miky. The vacated position on drums was taken over by newcomer Katha Mia. This line-up released their second album Temple of the Torn on June 15, 2007 , which was released by Soulfood in German-speaking countries .

This was followed by the albums Pain, Love & Poetry (2008), which contained three songs from the debut Head Under Water in new versions, accompanied by a single that consisted of a duet with Lisa Middelhauve ( Xandria ), as well as Voices of Doom ( 2009).

From April 2009 Mono Inc. went on extensive tours with Subway to Sally and ASP and played over 40 concerts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The EP Comedown followed on August 27, 2010 , a song that originally came from the band Bush . In October, Mono Inc. started their first headlining tour . The first part was played with changing support bands, the second with [soon] as a permanent support band. In the same year accompanied Mono Inc. as support the band Unholy together with Apoptygma Berzerk on their anniversary tour. Ex-singer Miky died in a paragliding accident in October 2010.

The fifth album Viva Hades , released on March 18, 2011, entered the German album charts at number 50 as the band's first release, having become accessible to a wider audience through their tour with Unheilig . The album, which was released for the first time not only as a regular CD, but also as a limited edition with a DVD , was favorably received by the domestic and foreign press. Another headliner tour followed, which also included appearances in Austria and Switzerland for the first time, as well as guest appearances at major scene festivals such as the M'era Luna Festival . On October 14, 2011, Revenge, another EP was released, which for the first time contained three live recordings. These come from the concert in Frankfurt am Main on May 14, 2011.

After a label change to SPV / Rookies & Kings , the single After the War was released on May 25, 2012 from the album of the same name, which was released on August 17 as part of the Summerbreeze Festival . The song is a cover version by Gary Moore from 1989; Moore also released the album under the same name. Arabia and the double single Wave No Flag / From The Ashes followed later . The song From the Ashes was performed live at the cruiserweight world championship boxing match between Yoan Pablo Hernández and Troy Ross on September 15, 2012 in the Stechert Arena in Bamberg when Hernández marched in.

On March 22, 2013, My Deal with God was initially released as a single from the album Nevermore . At the same time, the three albums Temple of the Torn , Pain, Love & Poetry and Voices of Doom were re-released as a Collector's Cut Edition, which in addition to the original tracks also contain unreleased songs and live versions. On June 21, 2013 Mono Inc. released Heile, Heile Segen another single, which is the first song to be sung entirely in German. The reaction of the music press to the piece, which reinterpreted a familiar nursery rhyme, was mixed. Since the piece is musically more mainstream, comparisons to Unheilig and Oomph! pulled, both of which would have swiveled to mass-compatible music in their band history.

The album Nevermore was released on August 9, 2013 via NoCut / SPV and entered the German album charts at number 3 in the first week after its release. The third single, Kein Weg zu weit followed on August 16, while the official video had its video premiere on Bild.de on August 8 . The collaboration with the Bildzeitung initially provoked negative reactions from many fans. Martin Engler then published a statement in which he made it clear that the cooperation was a means to an end in order to make as many people as possible aware of the problem of domestic violence discussed in the video .

In August 2014, the double album The Clock Ticks On 2004-2014 was released , which consists of a best-of CD and a CD with acoustic versions of earlier songs. Two tours through Germany followed by the beginning of 2015. The studio album Terlingua was released in May 2015 .

On January 13, 2017, the album Together Till the End was released , which again only contains English lyrics. It contains the most successful song in the band's history "Children of the Dark", in which Joachim Witt , Chris Harms from Lord of the Lost and Tilo Wolff from Lacrimosa played. Ronan Harris from VNV Nation also appears in the title Boatman.

The 10th studio album Welcome to Hell was released on July 27, 2018 and again contains texts in English without exception. The album consists of 2 CDs, the first CD contains 11 songs and the second CD consists of 10 songs, which are classic versions of the first CD. This includes the song Flies , which is a new edition of the song of the same name from the debut album Head Under Water .

Barely a year and a half later, the band released album number 11 with The Book Of Fire. Among other things, this includes a new recording of the Lacrimosa hit " Lichtgestalt ", which was recorded together with their singer Tilo Wolff . The song " Right for the Devil " is now being performed by the medieval band Tanzwut , with whom MONO INC. were already on the way in 2004 as opening act to present the first album "Head Under Water".

Music and style

Musically, Mono Inc. are classified between alternative and dark rock or gothic rock . There is a serious, sometimes somber mood on their albums; Frequently raised issues are loss and separation. At concerts, the band appears in dark costumes with matching makeup, as is typical of the scene, although the outfit sometimes varies during the concerts itself.

In addition to the main instruments of the band members in the form of electric guitar, bass and drums, other instruments are used at concerts. Among other things, Martin Engler takes up acoustic guitar and piano.

Although the band comes from Germany and, apart from a few concerts abroad, primarily performs there, the lyrics by Mono Inc. were all in English, until the first German song Heile, Heile Segen was released . On her seventh studio album, Nimmermehr , more pieces appeared in German, which were mixed up by fans and the press. With the eighth album, Terlingua , the Hamburg-based company continued on their path of bilingualism. Singer Martin Engler is also responsible for the lyrics. With the follow-up album Together Till the End, Engler leaves the German language and composes in English again. The worldwide successful song "Children Of The Dark" confirms this decision, which was continued with "Welcome to Hell" and "The Book of Fire".

In places, Mono Inc. also covers well-known pieces, for example by Gary Moore , Snow Patrol , DAD or Iggy Pop .
