VNV Nation (VNV means "Victory not Vengeance", German : "Triumph, not revenge") is an English - Irish Future Pop - band to Ronan Harris (singer).

General

The group's music is characterized by a mixture of danceable electronic rhythms with elements of pop music and techno - trance as well as orchestral influences. The texts deal with social issues as well as personal experiences. Above all there is a futuristic context that runs like a red thread through the music and the graphic concept of the band.

Band history

VNV Nation was founded in London by Ronan Harris. Originally the music was a mixture of orchestral and electronic influences. The result of this first work were two records: Body Pulse , a self-produced 2-track maxi (12 ") in May 1990 and Strength of Youth , also self-produced, this time with four tracks. This was released in November 1990. Ronan went into the same Year to Toronto , where he continued his work on this project. Nitzer Ebb also appreciated the new quality of danceable electro beats and brought VNV Nation after they went to Canada to support their “Ebbhead” tour there.

In 1994 Ronan returned to Europe with completely new and revised material. Some tracks were released exclusively on samplers. In July 1995 VNV Nation signed a contract with the German record company Discordia. The first complete CD album Advance & Follow was released . During this time, Mark Jackson joined the group and initially supported the group live as a drummer. He later became a full member of the VNV Nation.

In January 1998 the group signed a contract with the German record company Off-Beat and released the album Praise the Fallen (release date June 2, 1998). The first single was Solitary on September 14, 1998. VNV Nation went on tour in Germany in September.

In the spring of 1999 the previous label Off-Beat was dissolved and continued by Stefan Herwig as a dependent . The first releases came from VNV Nation, Covenant , Suicide Commando and Velvet Acid Christ .

Three albums were the result. Empires landed at number 1 in the DAC (German Alternative Charts) for seven weeks. It also became the album of the year 1999 (based on the DAC). Two singles were released from the album: Darkangel and, in spring 2000, Standing , which was number 1 for eight weeks - the longest time a single stayed in the DAC. Standing won the “German Alternative Music Award” for the most successful single in 2000. A strictly limited edition of 4,700 copies was Standing / Burning Empires , which contained different versions of pieces from the Empires CD. It is considered a rarity among collectors.

In March 2001 the CD Advance and Follow v2 was re-released , which had been revised again. In September of the same year, the single Genesis was released . It reached number 67 on the media control charts and was among the top 10 of the DAC. In October 2001 VNV Nation started the successful “Futureperfect” tour in Europe and North America. The fourth album Futureperfect was released in January 2002 and reached number 25 in the German album charts.

The second single, Beloved , reached number 60 on the Media Control Charts. After the release of Beloved , VNV Nation left the dependent label. In April 2002 VNV Nation went on tour in the USA again.

With their own label "Anachron Sounds" the band tries to own all rights to future releases exclusively. The much anticipated Past Perfect DVD was released in the summer of 2004. She showed live performances on various tours of the band.

The single Chrome was released in 2005. For the first time in the band's history, a single was only released as a free download on the Internet. The fifth album with the name Matter and Form was released in April 2005. On March 31, 2005 the "Formation Tour" 2005 began, which started in Hamburg and was expanded to North America. The band was supported in Europe by Diorama and Soman. In 2007 the album Judgment was released . The album Reformation 01 , the band's first live CD, was released in 2009. It also contains an album with remixes and previously unreleased compositions, as well as a live DVD. In June 2009 the album Of Faith, Power and Glory was released. With this album they started a European tour on September 2, 2009.

The album Automatic was released on September 16, 2011 . According to Media Control, it is the band's most successful album to date and ranked 8th in the German album charts. The Crossing the Divide EP , long promised to fans , was released on May 14, 2012 for free download. It contains six remixed versions of songs from the album Of Faith, Power and Glory .

The album Transnational was released in Germany on October 11, 2013 .

On May 15, 2015, the new album Resonance - Music for Orchestra Vol. 1 was released , which was recorded with the Babelsberg German Film Orchestra . It only contains orchestral versions of previously published pieces.

In November 2017, drummer Mark Jackson left the band.

The album Noire was released on October 12, 2018 .
