The ruins of the Martinice Castle (German Martinitz ) are located in the district Martinice of the town Votice in Okres Benešov ( Czech Republic ).
history
The castle, first mentioned in writing in 1318, stood northeast of today's church and was originally the seat of the knights and counts of Martinitz (z Martinic). It used to contain a large keep . Inside there was a three-winged building, the walls were reinforced with two smaller towers.
The first written document names Boleslav Redhorst von Smetschno and Martinitz (Boleslav Ředhošť ze Smečna a Martinic), the highest judge, as the owner of the fortress. His son died on September 28, 1322 in the battle of Mühldorf . His other sons exchanged the family fortune with Nikolaus von Nazic .
The owners changed until the 15th century. After the previous owner Brutius von Beneschau (Brutius z Benešova) died in 1439, King Ladislaus Postumus transferred it to Hynek von Martinitz ( Hynek z Martinic ). He died in 1523 and Martinice changed hands again, in any case Jaroslav Konárovský z Libanic is named as the holder of the land in 1528 , shortly thereafter knight Václav Předbor na Janovicích , who united it with his farms in Janovice. In 1548 the new owner was called Jan z Řičan .
The castle was probably abandoned later. Today only ruins exist. It is said to have been well preserved up to the end of the 19th century, but years later the material was used as building material for new settlements, such as in 1862 for the construction of the school.
