Mimoň Castle

The Mimoň Castle ( German : Burg Niemes ) was located on the Kirchberg in the town of Mimoň ( Niemes ) in the Ralská pahorkatina ( Rollberg hill country ) in the Czech Republic . The church of St. Peter and Paul was built in its place in the 17th century.

geography

The castle was located south of the old town of Mimoň on a hill on the right side of the Ploučnice ( Polzen ). The moat and the remains of a wall have been preserved.

history

The castle was probably built in the second half of the 13th century. It was first mentioned in writing in 1262 as the seat of the Lords of Nemans. Since 1352 one can also see the hll. Show that the church on the castle hill was consecrated to Peter and Paul. After the brothers Johann and Wenzel von Wartenberg acquired the Nyemands estate in 1371 and added it to their Děvín ( Dewin ) rule , the castle lost its importance as a manor and fell into disrepair. The wooden church was demolished after 1661. In their place, the owner of the Niemes estate , Johann Putz von Adlersthurn, had today's church of St. Peter and Paul built according to plans by Giulio Broggio .
