Giulio Broggio (born February 25, 1628 near Como or in Roveredo in Graubünden, † 1718 in Leitmeritz , Bohemia ) was an architect and builder of Italian or Swiss origin.

Life

Giulio Broggio was a representative of the Italian builders and bricklayers in Leitmeritz, whose number is given as almost 70 people for the second half of the 17th century. His verifiable first work was the conversion of the lower fortress in Tschischkowitz into a baroque palace for Gustav Adolph von Varrensbach between 1658 and 1665 .

Broggio married Ludmila Morel in Tschischkowitz in 1658 and became a resident there. In 1658 he belonged to the Leitmeritz bricklayer guild , whose guild he became in 1674 after he had been granted citizenship a year earlier. Soon afterwards he became the city and diocesan architect of Leitmeritz. His grave is in the Leitmeritz All Saints Church.

Giulio Broggio's outstanding work was the construction of the Leitmeritz cathedral. His son Octavio Broggio was also involved in many of his later works .
