Nettersheim Castle

Nettersheim Castle or also called Old Castle , is the name of a lost moated castle in Nettersheim , Euskirchen district , North Rhine-Westphalia .

The castle, which used to be a large, almost square castle building, was about 150 m northwest of the church at the confluence of the Urft and Geneva stream . The moats got their water from the Urft. The moat system with the castle building still existed in the 19th century and was leveled after 1870 when the railway line was built. The former owner, who also owned the Sophienhof, used parts of the stones from the castle to rebuild the courtyard in 1856. Presumably it was already in ruins by then. It is said to have burned down in 1707. Remnants of stone can still be found today under the railroad tracks of the Eifel line and under the adjacent parking lot.
