Okoř Castle is the ruin of a Gothic hilltop castle in Central Bohemia in the Czech Republic . It is located on a rock spur in the Zákolanský potok valley in the western part of the village of Okoř . The castle was one of the most demanding castles of the 14th century.
history
The castle has its origins in the second half of the 13th century. The castle was founded before 1359 by the wealthy old town citizen František Rokycanský. The Rokycanský family remained the owners of Okoř for over 50 years. In 1421 the Hussites took possession of the castle. The castle was then rebuilt in the first half of the 15th century.
The castle suffered a lot during the Thirty Years' War . The new owners - the Jesuits - College of the Prague Clementinum - have the castle rebuilt again according to their needs. After the order was dissolved by Pope Clement XIV in 1773, the castle administrator had the roofs torn down and sold as building material. Around 1800 half of the great tower collapsed.
In the 19th century there were emergency housing for the poor in the castle.
investment
The castle is in a lower position in relation to the surrounding terrain. The hill in the east, dangerous for the castle, was secured with an advanced fortification. By the end of the 15th century at the latest, part of the fortifications was a pond that surrounded the castle on three sides.
Culture
In the spring and summer months, historical events take place in the castle ruins, e.g. B. Associations' ideas of historical fencing. The open-air festival Okoř se šťávou in June and the Okoř Festival in the second half of August take place on the meadow below the castle ruins .
