Schauenstein Castle

The Castle Schauenstein , even Schaustein or Šaunštejn called, is a Outbound medieval hilltop castle on the top of Koksbergs at Šaunštejn , a district of the market town of Schönberg in Freyung-Grafenau in Bavaria .

On the castle built by the Lords of Saunstein and mentioned in 1223, the Passau bishops had a servant seat. The castle disappeared in the second half of the 13th century. Excavations were carried out on the Burgstall in 1983; today it is destroyed by a quarry.
