history
Fürsteneck Castle was built around 1190 by the Passau prince-bishop Wolfger von Erla as a border fortification against the Bavarian dukes. In 1570 a renovation took place under Prince-Bishop Urban von Trennbach . The palace chapel was built in 1745 under Cardinal Joseph Dominikus von Lamberg . In 1803 the castle fell to the Bavarian state and in 1814 it was sold to the former monk Konstantin Binder from Regensburg, who set up a brewery here. In 1818 Simon Georg became the owner, in 1877 Wilhelm Fein. The Forster family has owned Fürsteneck Castle since 1921. Today the castle houses a country inn with a restaurant and overnight accommodation. The Fürstenecker Baroque Festival has also been held here since 2005.
Building description
The castle complex has an access bridge over the neck ditch on the north side . The gate tower with its arched passage is essentially medieval, the rubble stone keep dates from the beginning of the 13th century. A three-wing residential building, marked 1700, is essentially older. The palace chapel, a central building with a mansard roof, was built by Severin Goldberger in 1745 and restored after a fire in 1929. It serves as the parish church of the Fürsteneck parish.
