The Schloss Haus is a castle in Haus im Wald , a district of the city of Grafenau in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau .

history

The castle was built in the 12th century as a permanent house for the lords of the house. Originally the Hofmarkschloss located on a hill was called "Veste Vurt" after the ford in the valley of the Ilz around which the village of Furth developed in the forest . The castle burned down in 1510 and was rebuilt in 1551. The name "Hauss" appears for the first time in a fiefdom from 1550. The castle was used as a school building from the 19th century.

Building description

Three-storey hipped roof building with two-storey extensions to the west and south over an irregular floor plan, in the core 1551; Gatehouse, two-storey eaves pitched roof structure with buttresses and central passage, above it a coat of arms, labeled "1551", side entrance labeled "1878"; Ring wall, remains in the west and south, quarry stone, probably 16./17. Century.
