The Castle Snake Mountain is an Outbound castle west of Eldagsen a district of Springe in Lower Saxony . The castle site is now on an agricultural area.
description
The castle was a medieval low castle , probably a motte (tower hill castle). It was located on the Schlangenberg as a small elevation in a lowland area. Presumably the castle, secured by a moat fed by the old Gehlenbach, had a main castle and outer castle . The hill is drawn in a semicircular curved shape on maps from the 19th century. In the 1950s, the hill is said to have been leveled by the then landowner when he converted the surrounding meadows into arable land. To the south of the castle was the deserted settlement of Reinvordessen, which could be proven by inspections .
history
It is assumed that the castle was the ancestral seat of the Reinwerlassung family of ministers . Her relatives were vassals of the Counts of Hallermunt . The von Reinwerreiten are proven from 1241 to 1347 and died out in the middle of the 14th century. Presumably, the castle was abandoned when the Reinwerlassung settlement fell into desolation at the end of the 14th century.
