The Castle of Pomerania in Pomerania in West Prussia is the second largest order castle of the Teutonic Order in today's Poland. Only the tower is preserved. The regional museum of Schlochau has been located in the tower and the church, which was added a good 100 years ago, since 2004.

Building history

The construction of the complex, in which the first commander resided as early as 1332, took place between 1325 and 1365. In 1454 it was conquered by soldiers of King Casimir IV of Poland . During the Thirteen Years War , the Crusaders occupied the castle for four days. In 1656, after the siege that lasted several months, Schlochau Castle came into Swedish possession for a year . From 1466 to 1770 the castle was the seat of a Polish starost . In the years 1633 to 1637 a new building was built on the castle for the associated administration ( Starostei ). After the First Partition of Poland in 1772, Czluchów came under Prussian rule. After the fire in the city in 1793, Friedrich Wilhelm II of Prussia allowed the Schlochauers to demolish the castle, which had been in good condition until then, in order to gain building material for new buildings. Since 1811 only the 46 meter high tower has been preserved.
