The Castle Somló (German Somló) is a former castle in Veszprém county in western Hungary . Their remains are on the 431-meter-high mountain Somló , an extinct volcano 15 kilometers west of Ajka .

history

Construction on the castle probably began in the late 13th or early 14th century. It was first mentioned in writing in 1352. In 1479, King Matthias handed the castle over to his legendary general Pál Kinizsi . He pledged it in 1490. In 1494 the castle came to Tamás Bakócz ; this extended them.

During the Rákóczi War of Independence in 1707 , the castle was confiscated. It later fell into disrepair and material was removed for the construction of the castle below the Somlo Mountain .
