Zichow Castle

The Zichow Castle is located in the Zichow municipality in the Gramzow district, Uckermark district . The place Zichow, probably of Slavic origin, is mentioned for the first time in a document from the Gramzow monastery from 1288.

From the medieval system today only said first documented in 1527 is keep present.

history

It is not clear when the castle was built . Today it is generally assumed that it was built during the German colonization in the east around the middle of the 13th century.

In the Treaty of Oderberg from 1354, Margrave Ludwig II of the Romans ceded the castle to Pomerania . It was expressly mentioned in the border treaties between Pomerania and Brandenburg from 1355.

Under Elector Friedrich II , the castle came back to Brandenburg in 1447. In 1449 the castle was pledged to Hans von Beerfelde with the condition that it had to be manned and structurally maintained .

The von Arnim family had owned the castle since 1456 (until 1945). After a fire in 1745 they had a castle built on the foundations of the old castle . The two-storey baroque building on an L-shaped floor plan with a hipped roof stands next to the Fangerturm, the keep of the old castle from the 13th century. The manor house, which is also a listed building, and a small park with a pond belong to the palace ensemble.

The complex is a listed building . The roof and truss were largely renovated by the community. In 2015, she sold the castle complex to the real estate investor and “castle collector” Georg Thaler.
