Burgberg cable car
The Burgbergseilbahn is an aerial cableway that went into operation in 1929 on and on the Großer Burgberg ( 485 m above sea level ) in Bad Harzburg .
The cable car leads from the valley station ( 291.7 m above sea level ; on the B 4 ) near the Radau up to the mountain station near the summit of the Großer Burgberg at the ruins of the Harzburg (approx. 483 m above sea level ). In doing so, it overcomes an altitude difference of around 186 m over a length of 481 m. A small museum is integrated into the mountain station, in which the history of the aerial tramway built by the Leipzig company Adolf Bleichert & Co. is presented.
The cable car's carrying cable has a diameter of 37 mm, the pull cable has a diameter of 18 mm. It is driven by a 45 HP electric motor housed in the mountain station; there is a 40 HP diesel engine for emergency operation. The cable car has a 23.5 m high support pillar that is located a little above the meeting point of both cabins. The maximum floor height of the cable car is 40 m.
A ride on the cable car takes about 3 minutes. A cabin can transport up to 19 people (18 passengers, 1 conductor). On April 2, 2011, the cable car registered its 25 millionth passenger.
