The Burgess Ice Rise is a small ice dome off the west coast of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It rises from the Wilkins Ice Shelf .
The British Antarctic Survey mapped it using the echo sounder data collected on February 11, 1967 during an overflight . Landsat images from February 1979 were used to correct its geographic positioning. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it after Robert William Burgess (* 1929) of the Royal Air Force , pilot of the Twin Otter with which the flyover was carried out in 1967.
