The Burggrafenturm is a building in the former episcopal city in Augsburg . The episcopal city was built on the ruins of the Roman settlement and consisted of a castle-like complex with a cathedral , a Fronhof and an episcopal palace. In the burgrave tower, which was rebuilt in 1507 under Bishop Heinrich IV of Lichtenau , the burgrave lived as the highest official of the castle town. The formerly important office was no longer mentioned in the imperial city court order of the 15th century.

The building is a listed building and has the number D-7-61-000-779 .

The appearance of the three-storey gabled house, today at Peutingerstraße 24, is largely determined by the octagonal bay windows. There is a vaulted passage on the ground floor. A memorial for missing soldiers was set up there after the Second World War. After secularization in Bavaria , the building fell to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1806 as part of the Prince-Bishop's Residence . After temporary use as a passport office, the agricultural winter school moved in in 1878 . With the change in municipal ownership in 1914, the Bavarian pub moved . Landesgewerbeanstalt Nürnberg - branch office Augsburg . The Burggrafenturm has been used by the Augsburg section of the German Alpine Club since 1977 .
