To the northeast of the S-Bahn platform is the listed facilities of the Schönholz freight station. The S-Bahn station is also a listed building .

history

The station was opened on July 10, 1877 under the name Reinickendorf . Originally it only had an outside platform . In 1878 the station was renamed Schönholz (Reinickendorf) . In 1884 the station was renamed again in Schönholz-Reinickendorf . In 1893 the outer platform was replaced by a central platform and at the same time, with the opening of the Kremmener Bahn, the station became a transfer station. In 1896 the station got a reception building.

Between 1901 and 1903 the line was laid on a dam and the station was rebuilt in the course of this work. The old station building was demolished. At the same time, a separate pair of long-distance tracks was set up for the northern line, and the Kremmener line was also separated. As a result, the station was only served by suburban trains.

From June 5, 1925, the first electric trains ran on this route. This turned the station into an S-Bahn station. With the electrification of the Kremmener Bahn two years later, mixed operation with steam locomotives was discontinued. In May 1938 the station was renamed Berlin-Schönholz .

In 1945 traffic was idle for a few weeks due to the war.

On January 9, 1984, the management of the West Berlin S-Bahn was transferred from the Deutsche Reichsbahn to the BVG . Both lines using the station were shut down. The station was closed. It was reopened on October 1, 1984 after the route to Frohnau had been reactivated. In 1995, the Kremmener Bahn followed, initially only to Tegel , and since 1998 to Hennigsdorf again .

The train station was given an elevator in 2011 as part of the economic stimulus programs of the Federal Republic of Germany and has been accessible since then .

As part of the construction of an electronic interlocking (ESTW) for the Kremmener Bahn starting at the station, the station's two mechanical interlockings, which ultimately controlled the freight station's track systems, went out of service. Its south head will be integrated into the ESTW Bornholmer Straße as part of the station.

Connection

The S-Bahn station is served by the S1, S25 and S26 lines of the Berlin S-Bahn. You can change to bus lines 150, 327 and N52 operated by BVG.
