The Berlin-Schlachtensee station is a station of the Berlin S-Bahn on the border between the Berlin districts of Nikolassee and Zehlendorf . It is named after the Schlachtensee , which is located north of the train station.

Location and structure

Former reception building

The S-Bahn station is located at kilometer 15.3 of the Alte Wannseebahn . The districts of Nikolassee and Zehlendorf in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district border one another in the station area.

The station includes a partially covered central platform of 230 meters in length, the Sts signal box , which is located between the tracks, and the former station building south of the railroad tracks. The building dates from the opening year 1874 and, like the entrance building of the Lichterfelde West train station, is built in the style of a Tuscan villa. However, the observation arbor on the tower belonging to the railway body no longer exists. It now serves as a restaurant and for residential purposes.

The entire complex is entered in the Berlin State Monument List.

history

Pedestrian underpass and signal box

The station was opened together with the old Wannseebahn on June 1, 1874. It initially had two side platforms and the station building. In the course of the construction of the new Wannseebahn, the facility was rebuilt and replaced by a central platform that was moved to the east. As a result, the station building lost its connection to the train station and from then on served private purposes. A single-track sweeping system was built west of the platform . In addition, there was a four-track freight yard at the southeast end of the station.

Since May 15, 1933, the station has been served by the electric trains of the Berlin S-Bahn. For the banker trains between Potsdamer Bahnhof and Wannsee , which also run on the Old Wannsee Railway , the platforms have been extended to 200 meters in order to enable them to be operated with ten-car trains. The sweeping system, on the other hand, was expanded.

During the Second World War , the station did not suffer any major damage. The decline started mainly with the S-Bahn boycott in 1961 and the associated decrease in passenger numbers. Traffic at the freight yard also fell sharply and led to its closure in 1970. In the late 1970s, the tracks were removed. With the Reichsbahn strike in 1980 , the S-Bahn traffic on the Wannseebahn was stopped. The takeover of the operating rights of the West Berlin S-Bahn by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe was followed by the renovation of the line and the adjacent stations. The Wannseebahn reopened on February 1, 1985. A lift was later installed for barrier-free access.

Connection

The S-Bahn station is served by the S1 line of the Berlin S-Bahn. There are no transfer options to other local public transport lines in Berlin .
