The Lehnitz Station is a breakpoint in Oranienburg district Lehnitz north of Berlin , that of the S-Bahn line S1 of the S-Bahn Berlin is served.

location

The train station is centrally located in the elongated town of Lehnitz, which has been part of Oranienburg since 2003. The station is located at 25.7 km of the Berlin Northern Railway , counted from the former Nordbahnhof in the area of today's Mauerpark . The Oranienburg station is 1.7 kilometers to the north side of the railway bridge over the Oder-Havel Canal . The station belongs to the Berlin C tariff area of the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association .

history

The station was opened on April 10, 1878 on the northern line. It was only ever used for passenger traffic.

On October 4, 1925, an electrically operated S-Bahn drove to the station for the first time. While the tracks of the S-Bahn and long-distance trains had been separated south of Birkenwerder, they shared the route to the north and thus also in the area around Lehnitz station. After 1945, a line track was dismantled due to reparation payments to the Soviet Union. After it was rebuilt, suburban and long-distance trains were each carried out separately on one track. The eastern platform has not been used since 1964, as only S-Bahn trains stopped in Lehnitz.

In 1977 work began on expanding the line to four tracks. In addition to a new bridge over the Oder-Havel Canal , the Lehnitz train station was also completely rebuilt. The route was swiveled to the west and the new station to the southwest of the old one went into operation in March 1980. Initially, the S-Bahn trains only used the western track, while the long-distance trains ran through the eastern edge of the platform. In April 1989, a separate long-distance line east of the platform went into operation. Since then, S-Bahn traffic has been double-tracked on both platform edges.

Investments

The old Lehnitz station consisted of two side platforms on tracks at ground level and a small reception building. The new station is in an elevated position and has an island platform. The main access to the platform is via stairs from a pedestrian tunnel, the southern access via a barrier-free ramp. The access crosses the western S-Bahn track and is secured with a barrier. The old station building was demolished in 1981/82, there are no more traces of it and the earlier barrier at the station.
