The rampart near Beestland , a district of the Warrenzin community in the Mecklenburg Lake District , is an old Slavic hilltop castle from the 7th to 9th centuries.
The Slavic castle wall is secluded on a mountain spur in the Beestland Forest, a good kilometer west of the village. The castle is also known as the Bear Castle. The castle had no visible ramparts and was only fortified with palisades due to its natural protective position. It served the surrounding population as a retreat in times of war. Perhaps a local Wilzen prince also lived here . The Wallberg bears a striking resemblance to the Slavic castles of Ganschendorf and Hohenbüssow , which existed at the same time.
