The castle wall of Groß Görnow , a district of the small town of Sternberg in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district , is located northeast of the town on a high plateau above the Warnow Valley . It was an old Slavic hilltop castle from the "Feldberg period" from the 8th to 10th centuries. The castle is one-part and has an only partially encircling wall. Where there were naturally steep slopes, there was no complicated wall construction. As far as can be seen, the castle had three wall gates. One of them led to the lower lying Warnow. The maximum extension of the castle complex is over 250 meters. Because of its size, the castle could have been a refuge in times of need. There was enough space for about 1000 people. Only 1,500 meters further south was another rampart, which was apparently even older than that of Groß Görnow. When in the 9th / 10th Century finally gave up the hill fort, a new settlement was built near Groß Raden on a peninsula . It is believed that the former residents of the hilltop settlement now moved to the lowlands on the Groß Radener See.
