Burke Island is an ice-covered, uninhabited island in the Amundsen Sea off the Walgreen coast of the west Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . It has an area of about 334.43 km² , which corresponds to a length of 30.57 km and an approximate width of 10.94 km. It is located about 58.52 km southwest of Cape Waite at the end of the King Peninsula .
Aerial photographs of the United States Navy's VX-6 squadron in 1960 were used to map them. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1961 after Arleigh Burke (1901-1996), then Chief of Naval Operations .
