Typ ship Long Hope

The type Burmeister & Wain BC50 , also Burmeister & Wain Mark I , was a series of Panamax bulk carriers that was built by the Copenhagen shipyard Burmeister & Wain from 1967 .

details

In the 1960s, European shipbuilders were faced with growing competition from Japanese competitors who offered reasonably priced standard ships. The BC50 ship design was therefore developed for series construction in sectional construction in order to enable cost-effective production and thus competitive construction prices even under European conditions.

The bulk carriers of the Mark I series had seven holds and an initial carrying capacity of 50,600 tons. The type BC50 was designed in a single-hull design and was later redesigned with a slightly higher load capacity of around 52,000 tons. The deckhouse was located far aft over the engine room. In terms of shipbuilding, it was worth mentioning the design of the stern, which tapered relatively sharply and whose rear end resembled a foredeck.

The propulsion of the ships consisted of an eight-cylinder two-stroke marine diesel engine of the type B&W 74-VT2BF-160 with an output of around 13,200 hp, which delivered its power directly to the individual fixed propeller and enabled a speed of around 16  knots . Three auxiliary and one emergency diesel were available for the energy supply .
