The bus station was built in 1962. Shortly before, the Trinity Church stood in its place , which had been demolished and replaced by a park according to the decision of the city administration. The bus station built on this site has 5 bus platforms and rooms for ticket sales and catering for travelers.

The bus station was operated by the city until 2004 and then privatized. Since then, the operator has been "сумського обласного підприємства автомобільного транспорту" (Sumy Oblast Automobile Transport Company). Then the station was reconstructed and completely renovated. On December 15, 2009, the station was equipped with the ACS “Bus Station” (АСУ “Е-Автовокзал”) software for automated control, which, among other things, a.
