The reed warbler ( Acrocephalus dumetorum ) is a songbird belonging to the genus of reed warbler ( Acrocephalus ) and the reed warbler family (Acrocephalidae). No subspecies are described.

The reed warbler is a very rare exception in Central Europe. Its breeding area stretches from southern Finland and the Baltic States to the east.

description

The bush warbler is about 11 to 17 centimeters long and has a wing length of 5.8 to 6.5 centimeters. The weight is about 9 to 15 grams. The reed warbler can hardly be distinguished from the pond or swamp warbler . The top is gray-brown, its underside is olive-beige. The slightly stronger and longer beak has a diffuse, dark tip of the lower mandible. Males and females have the same coloration. The contrast-free screen springs and the shorter hand swing projection are further distinguishing features. The most certain distinguishing feature, however, is the singing. Often heard at night, it imitates other bird calls much more slowly than the reed warbler. Often melodious parts are included.

habitat

Its distribution area extends in the westernmost extent from southern Finland and the Baltic States to the east. It can be found in north-eastern Poland as well as all of Belarus. The southern limit of distribution runs from the far north of Ukraine via Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Tajikistan to Nepal, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. The wintering areas are in India. The reed warbler breeds in a bushy landscape. But it can also be found in clearings in deciduous forests or in bushes near rivers. Reed areas with standing water are avoided. The nest is built in dense shrubs, for example.

In Germany, the songbird was found in Drömling (2016), among others .

Reproduction

The main breeding season for the reed warbler is late May to August.
