Business Network International (BNI) is a business referral network founded in 1985 in the United States by business consultant and author Ivan Misner.
According to its own information, the organization is politically, religiously and ideologically neutral and is represented in 71 countries with more than 241,000 members.

The BNI is a franchise company with the aim of increasing profits for the franchise participants.

German-speaking area

For the German-speaking economic area DA-CH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), BNI Germany was founded in 2003 as a GmbH & Co. KG based in Vienna . The first German entrepreneurial teams (chapters) were also founded in 2003. The network currently has 14,117 members in the DA-CH region (as of December 31, 2018).

Self-image

The declared aim of the BNI is to increase the turnover of the affiliated companies through new contacts and business recommendations. Every BNI member is encouraged to think about how they can help others. According to the motto “whoever gives, wins”, companies should generate additional sales free of commission that they would not have achieved without BNI.

Entrepreneur teams

Entrepreneurs join entrepreneurship teams as BNI members. Each team consists of up to 60 entrepreneurs from different fields. Each specialist area is only represented once in an entrepreneurial team.

There are currently 344 entrepreneurial teams in the BNI Germany division, 81 entrepreneurial teams are currently active in the BNI Austria division and around 8,621 worldwide. The most important pillar of the chapter are binding weekly breakfast meetings. These meetings are firmly structured. The focus is on short presentations by members and the passing on of company recommendations. Business is not primarily done within the team; it is primarily about conveying business contacts to another member and receiving recommendations from other members. Every entrepreneur has to apply again to the other chapter members after one or two years to stay in the group. The entrepreneurial teams are compared not only worldwide, but also in the respective region using key figures ( benchmarks ).

financing

In addition to an admission fee, members pay an annual membership fee. This is around 1000 euros. In return, you receive a success control, the organization, workshops and a closed intranet to network with other members online regionally, nationally or worldwide. The treasurer of the entrepreneurial team pays the breakfast costs to the restaurant where the weekly breakfast meeting takes place.
