Karnit flight ( Hebrew קרנית פלוג; * January 9, 1955 in Warsaw ) is an Israeli economist and has been the governor of the Israeli Central Bank since 2013 . She is the Bank of Israel's first female governor .

Life

Flug is the daughter of two Holocaust survivors. Her father is the former chairman of the umbrella organization for Holocaust survivors in Israel and the International Auschwitz Committee (IAK) , Noah Flug . When she was three years old, she emigrated to Israel with her family.

She studied at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and at Columbia University in New York City . During her studies she worked for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) . After Flug returned to Israel in 1988, she worked for the central bank's research department and was later involved in a research stay at the Inter-American Development Bank .

In 2011, Flug became the deputy of the Central Bank of Israel until she was officially appointed chairwoman in 2013 after six months of acting leadership.
