Business Objects was a software manufacturer based in San José and Paris and one of the leading providers of business intelligence (BI) solutions.

Business Objects had more than 39,000 customers in over 80 countries. The company was listed on NASDAQ and Euronext in Paris. In the German-speaking region, Business Objects was represented with branches in Munich, Frankfurt / Main, Düsseldorf, Zurich, Nyon (CH) and Vienna (A).

The business areas included the development of company-wide information infrastructures and the development of business intelligence solutions (BI) for reporting , queries and analyzes, performance management , enterprise information management , financial planning and budgeting, visualization and for the use of industry and function-specific analysis and Management solutions.

On October 7, 2007, SAP announced that it would take over Business Objects for a total of more than EUR 4.8 billion. The European Commission approved the planned takeover in accordance with the European Merger Control Regulation on November 27, 2007. On July 1, 2008, Business Objects Deutschland GmbH was legally incorporated into SAP Deutschland AG & Co. KG. Business Objects SA was dissolved; some of its subsidiaries remained as independent companies in the SAP group.

Products and solutions

With BusinessObjects XI Release 4 , Business Objects offered a business intelligence platform. The solution included products for data integration , reporting , queries and analyzes, financial planning, consolidation and budgeting, enterprise information management , visualization and performance management, and made a company-wide information platform available to users.

Continuation by SAP

An integration of the business objects tools as a front end for SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence was implemented with the version of Xcelsius 2008 .

According to a study, the SAP Business Objects brand took first place in business intelligence software sales in Germany in 2009 with sales of 110 million euros.
