Bellevue restaurant

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bellevue restaurant was a restaurant on the Pfaffenberg near Grinzing in Vienna .

The restaurant was opened on May 18, 1963 by the mayor of Vienna, Franz Jonas .

The large complex designed by the architect couple Traude and Wolfgang Windbrechtinger in the typical sober style of the 1960s comprised around 1150 restaurant seats, 800 of them outdoors, with a magnificent view of Vienna.

The artistic equipment came from Maria Biljan-Bilger .

However, the large restaurant seemed a bit too anonymous and too uncomfortable to attract the local and international audience. A commercial success could not be achieved and after years of neglect in 1982 the restaurant building was demolished without replacement.
