description

The Cão da Serra da Estrela is a large (72 cm, 50 kg) herd guard dog that courageously defends its area against predators such as wolf , but also against cattle thieves. Like all herd guard dogs, he works independently. He is lively in his movements and imposing in appearance. His safe, sometimes threatening behavior towards strangers is worthy of respect; on the other hand, he is remarkably obedient to the Shepherd , his Lord. The ears are small, triangular and set back.

The hair is like goat hair, dense, straight or wavy in short or long, dense, often differently colored undercoat, in fawn, wolf gray and yellow possibly with white markings.
