Cəlal Abbasov

Cəlal Əşraf oğlu Abbasov (also Jalal or Jalal, Russian Джалал Аббасов ; born May 8, 1957 in Baku ) is an Azerbaijani composer and folklorist.

Life

Cəlal Abbasov is the son of the Azerbaijani composer Əşraf Abbasov and was introduced to music at an early age. He received his first musical training at the Bülbül Music School . He studied composition at the Baku Music Academy with Qara Qarayev . and graduated in composition in 1980. He completed postgraduate studies with Fərəc Qarayev in 1984. In 1990 Abbasov received the Azərbaycan Gənclər İttifaqı [Azerbaijani Youth Union] prize for his third symphony . In 1996 he composed the internationally recognized piece Where are you Ulysses, which was played at several international music festivals. In 1998 he won the composition competition for the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, UNESCO, with his fourth symphony . In 2002 he was the only composer from the republics of the former Soviet Union to take part in a symposium of the Asian Composers' League , entitled Asian Music in the Third Millenium . His works have been performed in the United States, Germany, Austria, France, Korea, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and other countries. In 2006 he took part in the Moskovskaya Osen International Film Festival in memory of Qara Qarayev. In addition to his work as a composer, he collects and researches traditional Azerbaijani folk music. He took part in several expeditions to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic , the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and Gəncə and collected valuable material there. He is a professor at the Baku Music Academy. At the IX Congress of the Union of Azerbaijani Composers , he was elected Secretary of the Board. and headed the Choral Music Committee. He is also entrusted with the project Works by Azerbaijani Composers Performing Young Performers .

Cəlal Abbasov composed a large number of works, including music for symphony orchestra, chamber music, works for solo instruments, a children's opera and a large number of choral works. He has published recordings of some works on his YouTube channel.
