C-evo is the classic game Civilization modeled on turn-based strategy with strong AI component. The game is distributed as non-commercial freeware and the source code is available free of charge without a license (and is therefore not yet free software ).

description

The game is based heavily on the civilization model . The player has to take care of, among other things, exploration, expansion, the economy, diplomacy and warfare of his nation. The ultimate purpose, however, is to build a transstellar colony ship to enable the colonization of more star systems. Unlike many other titles in this genre, this is the only condition to win. According to the developers, C-evo should be based on the spirit of turn-based strategy games of the 1990s. But more emphasis is placed on a powerful, not cheating artificial intelligence , a careful set of rules and the challenge to the player. The AI is separate from the rest of the game and can be modified and expanded by the user using a development kit.

The game only has a single player mode, the planned multiplayer mode was not completed.

C-evo is written in Delphi 4 and is only available for Windows .

reception

C-evo was praised as one of the best freeware strategy games in a Eurogamer review, and the strong artificial intelligence of its opponents received special mention.

At an international conference for artificial intelligence in 2005, Rubén Sánchez-Pelegrín and Belén Díaz-Agudo presented a paper entitled "An Intelligent Decision Module based on CBR for C-evo". C-evo was discussed as a platform for research in the field of artificial intelligence.
