John Clifford "Cliff" Garrett , founder of the aerospace company Garrett AiResearch , expanded into the music industry in late 1959. In addition to independence from major labels, the aim of founding the company was to have the broadest possible portfolio. For this purpose, a separate sales network was sought, the use of which was made available to smaller independent labels such as Locket Records . In addition, there were “CG Music” for ASCAP and “Garcliff Music” for BMI music publishers, whose company names, like the recording company itself, were derived from the name of the founder. Garrett himself took over the office of President, Irving E. Klase was won as Vice President and General Manager . Mischa Novy became vice-president and music director, while sound engineer Don Gallese was responsible for distribution, sales and promotion. In the year after its founding, Larry Stith Klases took over the position of Vice President and the producer and DJ Steve Topley took over the position of General Director, which he was unable to fill for a long time: due to the early death of founder Garrett in 1963, the company had only a short history .

CG Records

CG Records was the main label dedicated to light music : pop, popular world music and popular classical music. The first LP release was a collection of lively performed, popular melodies from film and folk music, which the music director Novy presented on the violin and his orchestra, which had been recorded before the company was founded. In January 1962, the new general manager Topley was able to announce the engagement of the R&B and soul singer Billy Storm for CG, although his three singles appeared on the subsidiary label Infinity. The activities of CG Records itself were discontinued after a few LP and single issues with the death of the president.
