The Palatine C4 Bay 05 were four-axle compartment cars for passenger trains. They were available in the form with a raised brakeman's cab or with an open free seat brake. The generic designation results from the takeover of the Palatinate wagons as part of their incorporation into the Bavarian State Railway in 1909.
history
With the increased number of supra-regional passenger and express trains in the first decade after 1900, the Palatinate Railways also had to grapple with being able to provide appropriate types of wagons for these types of trains. The wagon compensation agreed with the neighboring railways also prompted the Pfalzbahn to procure wagons for upscale passenger train traffic. For the third class, a total of 10 cars of this type were therefore procured from the Rastatt wagon construction company in 1905 and 1906. As a private company, the Pfalzbahn was also forced to operate more economically, so only half of the cars were built with closed brakeman's cabins. The rest had open brakeman's seats.

According to the numbering scheme, this type of car was procured by all three companies. There they were used as part of express and express trains on the important routes of these companies.
Whereabouts
When the Pfalzbahn was incorporated into the Bavarian State Railroad in 1909, these cars were also taken over. In 1920 the cars came to the Reichsbahn's Bavarian Group Administration and were subordinated to the Ludwigshafen directorate. There they were given the generic identifier C4 Bay 05 . The further route is not known, as the Reichsbahn did not keep separate data for the former Palatinate wagons.
Constructive features
Underframe
Frame: riveted rolled sections. The outer side members had a U-shaped cross-section. To support the car body due to the large pivot spacing, a truss frame made of profiles and pillars was installed in the plane of the outer longitudinal beams.
Drawbar: screw couplings , the drawbar was continuous and sprung in the middle.
Bumpers: The original rod buffers were later replaced by sleeve buffers .
drive
Bogies of Bavarian standard design with a short wheelbase were used as the running gear. These had a frame made of metal sheets and angles riveted together. The axles were stored in sliding axle bearings. The wheels had spoked wheel bodies with a diameter of 1,014 mm. Pneumatic brakes from the Schleifer system were used as brakes . There was also a hand spindle brake at one end of the car. In the case of type I cars, this was located in a raised, closed brakeman's cab; in type II cars, the free seat brake was provided with one.
Car body
Shell: car body frame made of wood, clad on the outside with sheet metal and inside with wood. Side walls slightly drawn in on the underside, barrel roof. Car type I with a raised brakeman's cab, accessible from both sides, with a flat arched roof, car type II with a free-seat brake integrated in the car body. No transition on the front sides.
Interior: a total of ten 3rd class compartments. A total of four toilets with washing facilities. One of the toilets could be reached from each compartment through side passages. The car had wooden benches.
Heating: The vehicles had steam heating .
Ventilation: static fans on the roof above the toilets, gill fans above the compartment doors and the toilet windows.
Lighting: Originally, the lighting was gas; the storage container hung on the frame in the longitudinal direction of the car. Later partially electric lighting.
