CAMP (artist group)

CAMP (Critical Art and Media Practices) was founded in Mumbai in 2007 . Shaina Anand (* 1975 in Bombay, India), Ashok Sukumaran (* 1974 Sapporo , Japan) and Sanjay Bhangar are among the founding members. CAMP is a group of artists, technologists, programmers and cultural agents that work on an interdisciplinary basis . CAMP deals with the history and politics of technology and experimental video and sound recordings. In 2009, CAMP was involved in founding Pad.ma online , a footage archive.

The film From Gulf to Gulf to Gulf , (83 minutes, 2013) deals with traders who transport all kinds of goods from the Gulf of Kachchh to the Arabian Sea to the Persian Gulf . Anand and Sukumaran collected footage for this film over a period of four years. They combine HD videos with pictures that the sailors took with cell phone cameras and camcorders . This compilation film contains elements from Bollywood as well as religious songs chosen by the sailors.

CAMP has exhibited internationally. Among other things, they took part in dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel in 2012, in the Viennale in 2013 , in the Shanghai Biennale in 2014 and in the Skulptur.Projekte in Münster in 2017 .
