CCP Games ( C rowd C ontrol P roductions) is a company based in the Icelandic capital Reykjavík that develops the online game EVE Online and its offshoots.

history

The company was founded in the summer of 1997. After almost six years of development, CCP launched their first computer game, EVE Online , in 2003 and continues to operate and expand it to this day.

In 2006 CCP merged with White Wolf under the leadership of the then CEO of CCP, Hilmar Veigar Pétursson. The companies want to keep their names, but want to pool their strengths. The "by-products" of EVE Online , such as the trading card game and a planned pen & paper role-playing game , are distributed by White Wolf.

In fiscal 2007, CCP generated sales of US $ 37.15 million and a profit of almost US $ 3.0 million. In 2008 about 35% of the shares are held indirectly by the Icelandic entrepreneur Björgólfur Thor Björgólfsson . Annual sales in 2008 were $ 46.5 million. Because CCP generates most of its sales in foreign currencies and has foreign branches, the company was less affected by the Icelandic financial crisis than other Icelandic companies. Nonetheless, at the height of the financial crisis in 2008, there was speculation that the capital controls introduced at the time by the Icelandic central bank could force CCPs to leave the country.

CCP was planning an online game for the vampire series World of Darkness by White Wolf . The target group is young women between the ages of 18 and 25. The end of the project was announced on April 1, 2014.

On November 29, 2012, the Museum of Modern Art announced that from March 2013, EVE Online and 13 other computer games would be included in a new permanent design exhibition at the Philip Johnson Galleries. All titles were named as outstanding representatives in the field of interaction design. In addition to the visual quality and the aesthetic experience, criteria were all aspects that contribute to the design of the interaction, such as the elegance of the program code or the design of the player behavior.
