Integrin α-5 (synonym CD49e ) is a surface protein from the group of integrins .
properties
Integrin α-5 is a cell adhesion molecule . Together with integrin beta-1 it forms a heterodimeric receptor for fibronectin , fibrillin-1 and fibrinogen . It binds to the amino acid sequence ArgGlyAsp in collagen. It also binds to another binding site, PLA2G2A , which increases the affinity for fibronectin and fibrinogen. Integrin α-2 is glycosylated and phosphorylated . It is the receptor for the parvovirus B19 . In HIV- infected people, by binding to Tat protein, it increases angiogenesis in Kaposi's sarcoma .
